The iconic *Claridges Hotel* in London offers a highly sophisticated afternoon tea in London.
This was a rather fantastic gift that my colleagues bought me as a leaving present, as they know my love for afternoon tea. This would be perfect for classy hen party or special anniversary treat.
Claridges certainly has the wow factor right from the moment you arrive. That famous entrance that has hosted many stunning events leads through to the most glorious reception area. That winding staircase and the monochrome glossy floor take you to another world.
My grandmother always used to say to me – ‘It is only an excellent hotel if it has excellent powder rooms’ so my first stop was the ladies room and they were quite something in themselves. A friendly attendant, a line of Hollywood style dressing tables, floral wall murals and Claridges logo encrusted paper convey the level of detail that the hotel prides itself on.
Afternoon tea itself was fantastic- the notable jade and white striped bone chine and the shiny silverware were just lovely in the stunning art deco inspired foyer. The musical duo enhanced the ambiance greatly and provided the perfect teatime melody. The staff were very accommodating and gave us a sufficient amount of time to choose from the selection of 24 teas from all over the world. The Claridges blend was a lovely traditional tea that perfectly complimented the finger sandwiches. The chefs were very good at catering for my dietary requirements and delivered a specially made plate of delicious sandwiches whilst my husband enjoyed the traditional selection.
The sandwiches were followed by both plain and fruit scones complete with Cornish clotted cream and Marco Polo jelly. Then finally a delicious platter of sweet pastries arrived, including a chocolate and raspberry macaroon and a peanut butter eclair. There was a real twist to the traditional afternoon tea pastries, which was refreshing to see in such a traditional setting. We selected the Single Estate blend for this course and the stronger, deeper taste was the perfect accompaniment to this. Tea was poured by staff in abundance which was a lovely touch.
This award winning afternoon tea is up there as one of my favourites – delicious food, a spectacular art deco setting and impeccable service. A real magical afternoon tea experience to remember!
