I am passionate about finding great wedding suppliers and it makes me so happy when I do! Jacqui’s love of making delicious and beautifully decorated cookies is wonderful,
“Life as a cookie maker is never dull! No two days are ever the same. I have no problem finding inspirations and my customers always find me something different to tackle. The wonderful feedback I get from my customers makes it all worthwhile. Running my own business may be hard work but it is definitely the most rewarding work I have ever done.”
The lovely Jacqui of *Cookie Kitchen* has provided today’s *Pearls of Wedding Wisdom*
*How did Cookie Kitchen begin?*
I come from a baking background, with my family running their own bakery and tearooms which I worked in as I was growing up. As I grew older, I went into different kinds of work and only really baked occasionally with my children, making fairy cakes and cookies from time to time. But I always had an aching desire to be my own boss, so when my job at a local school came to an end, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try working for myself. I began by selling cakes and cookies on local markets but soon discovered it was the decorating that I really enjoyed and cookie decorating in particular, and so Cookie Kitchen was born. I bought lots of different cookie cutters, looked to the internet initially for inspiration and on-line tutorials and practised a lot!
*Where do you get your inspiration from?*
My inspiration now comes from many places. I do a lot of custom orders so I work to the customer’s brief. When the customer is unsure what they want, but has a general theme in mind, I can give them a few ideas to choose from. Other than this, my inspirations are mainly shaped by current events and seasonal celebrations. I like to keep my designs simple, fun and relevant for my customers.
*How could Cookie Kitchen feature at a wedding?*
Cookies can be a fun addition to a wedding. A tin of personalised cookies can be given to the bride and groom as a memorable gift, as can a cookie card. They can be used as a thank you gift to be given to guests such as bridesmaids and page boys. Cookies also make perfect place settings. I have made wedding themed cookies in the past to be hung from branches too, which look highly effective. Because they are hand decorated they can always be personalised with names and dates, made to suit any theme and colour scheme.
*What would you recommend for wedding favours?*
Some of my most popular favours are hearts, either iced with bride and groom names/initials or dressed as bride and groom, or a tiered wedding cake cookie, again iced with bride and groom initials and the wedding date. But wedding favours can be made to suit any theme and in the past I have made more unusual favours such as camper vans, hot air balloons and butterflies.
*Which of your cookies could be given as a wedding gift?*
I make a luxury tin of wedding themed cookies which include hearts iced with initials and a personalised tiered wedding cake cookie. The cookie tins contain 3 layers of delicious cookies. Guests buy these tins as an unusual gift for the happy couple. I have also made cookies to give as gifts to wedding guests such as page boys, bridesmaids and mother of the bride etc.
*What would you recommend for a wedding anniversary gift?*
Wedding anniversary gifts using cookies is a fab idea as they can be custom made around themes such as the honeymoon, an anniversary trip or the couple’s hobbies and interests. A tin of cookies made just for you is a very personal and fun gift to receive.
*How far in advance of a wedding should cookies be ordered?
I ask for a minimum of 2 week’s notice but sometimes orders can be fitted in at the last minute. At the very least, 3 working days notice is required.
*Apart from wedding inspired cookies, for what other occasions could your cookies be used?*
I make cookies for all occasions. This includes seasonal celebrations such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s/Father’s Day and also includes events such as a birthday, new baby, retirement, a move to a new home or a simple thank you cookie. One of my most popular lines is the cookie card, a slim cookie box that fits through the letterbox and contains 2 or 3 cookies to celebrate events such as those already mentioned.
A huge thanks to Jacqui for sharing her gorgeous cookies with us!
