The spectacular ready-to-wear collection would be perfect for an elegant and vintage-loving bride. Each piece is designed and created with decadent and carefully chosen fabrics and finished with exquisite embellishments. Adding an accessory is such a lovely way to make your wedding dress a true reflection of you!
Everything about a purchase with *Sash and Veil* is unique. Each piece, made with love, is presented in a charming box complete with ribbons. Purchasing one of the divine accessories isn’t just about buying something to wear on your wedding day, it is about buying a piece that can be treasured and passed onto your children. I love this concept so much, particularly in an age where we consume so much but cherish so little.
The *Sash and Veil* bespoke service means that you can tailor any of the pieces to reflect you and your style and to complement your wedding dress beautifully. Working with the super talented *Sash and Veil* team to create your very own bespoke accessory would really make your wedding dress unique. I adore the idea of including a family memento that is precious to you, whether that be some antique lace or a treasured brooch etc, to give your bridal accessory a piece of family history. The options to personalise your accessories are just so delightful, including the opportunity for words to be inscribed onto charms or to be embroidered into belts, garters and sashes.
Anything sparkly is what I love and *Sash and Veil* certainly provides that touch of sparkle with their use of Swarovski crystals. When combined with pretty pastels and beautiful silks and lace, utter bridal heaven is achieved. *SV Couture* is just divine and allows the team to get so creative with your accessory and make something completely out of this world! The *Sash and Veil* studio is filled with an abundance of pretty and the wonderful bridal accessories available include:
The super lovely Heather of *Sash and Veil* has kindly provided today’s *Pearls of Wedding Wisdom*
*How did Sash and Veil begin?*
I have always had a love of fabrics and embroidery going back to when I was a child and was taught to sew by my grandmother. I went on to study Fashion illustration at London College of Fashion and then did my Degree in Fashion Design and Textiles at Ravensbourne. After graduating I have worked in several couture studios in London, in an atelier environment, improving my knowledge of surface decoration and embellishment techniques. I created Sash + Veil almost by accident when a friend with a bridal shop asked me to create a sash for one of her brides. The first pieces I made proved popular, I later added veils, headpieces and garters and Sash + Veil was born!
*Where do you get your inspiration from?*
I usually start with a piece of fabric, a beautiful image or something I may have come across in a thrift shop and liked the look of but had no idea what I’d ever do with it! A recent example is our Claudia sash, the inspiration behind which is the beautiful ivory Guipure lace trim I found while browsing in a local antique shop. The lace was wound onto an old card and wrapped in its original paper – I can imagine it must have been stored in the back of an haberdashery shop for years. I just had to do something with it so I created this sash which comprises swirls of crystals, diamantes and tiny rocaille beads set onto the guipure lace. Each of our pieces is made individually so no two accessories are ever exactly the same and Claudia is extra special because as the lace is an antique find, it’s not repeatable.

*How is Sash and Veil perfect for brides?*
I think every bride should feel special on her wedding day and I’d like to think that wearing a Sash + Veil piece will make you feel that little bit unique. We have our ready-to-wear collection available to order from the website, which we are adding to all the time, or we can work together with a bride to create a bespoke piece which is uniquely hers. Perhaps she loves a piece from the collection but would like to tweak or change a detail, or include a reference from her wedding colour palette or even she has an idea for something completely different, we’re happy to work with her and create that special piece.
*What different styles of sashes and belts do you offer?*
We have designed our collections of sashes and belts to suit most budgets and gowns. We have narrower styles like our Portia and Vela sashes for a more subtle look, or slightly wider and full-waisted is our newest Maple sash where the sparkly beading stretches all around the waist or for some out-and-out glamour we have the very elaborate Elara and Estella sashes from our luxury SV Couture Collection. These are our showpieces, Estella is a sash set on a delicate organza panel, and incorporates hundreds of diamantes, crystals and tiny pearls whereas Elara has a more art deco feel and is a belt of crystals and tiny glass beads set on a satin band.
*Could you tell us about your collection of veils and headbands?*
We’re very happy that statement veils are such a big trend at the moment – we can indulge our passion for decorating things! We work with our brides to create their dream veil, usually incorporating tiny crystals – each one applied by hand or a delicate lace trim hand-stitched to the edge of the veil (similar to the one worn by Michelle Keegan!). We are in the process of making a cathedral length veil for a July bride, using over a thousand crystals, each one lovingly applied by hand!
We have created a few our headbands such as our most recent Maple headband (thank you to our lovely bride Emily Pearce for naming the collection for us!) to complement our sashes but our most popular style this season is our velvet headband, which we offer in vintage pastel shades embellished with hundreds of diamantes and crystals – and this one’s not just for the bride, this style looks great worn casually with jeans and a cashmere sweater to zazz up your look!
*Do you take bespoke orders for weddings to match different colour schemes/themes?*
We do indeed, and we love creating bespoke pieces. We’ll begin the process by asking the bride for her ideas and colours, we’ll then either meet up or we post out swatches of fabrics and beading ideas and begin together creating something unique and beautiful for our bride to have on her special day.
*Are you able to make bridesmaid/flower girl accessories also?*
Of course – we are often asked to make matching sashes for the bride and flower girls to tie in the theme. For example, our Aurora sash is a popular choice for brides who will often choose the 3-star version for herself and the smaller one star or 2 star sashes for her flower girls to wear. We also offer the matching Aurora headbands which look super cute on little girls.
*Could you please tell us more about your fabulous accessory line of garters?*
Our garters are quite often one-off pieces, again because we love to make them unique, using scraps of antique lace. We can personalise them by adding a silver or gold charm engraved with wording of your choice, we can incorporate a piece of you’re the bride’s jewellery or use a piece of the bride’s own fabric or lace.
Recently we made a garter for a bride whose husband-to-be is a naval officer and we made her garter band using the ribbon from his cap tally trimmed with a vintage black lace – it was very special and we loved the challenge.
*How far in advance of the wedding should a bride contact you about your fabulous accessories?*
As much notice as possible – some of our weddings are not taking place until 2017 – but ideally for bespoke orders we like about 2-3 months for veils and sashes and at least a month for a bespoke garter. We can, however, sometimes rush through urgent orders – just pop us over an email to discuss.

*What makes Sash and Veil unique?*
There are lots of gorgeous wedding businesses out there and we are one of many but we hope we stand out a little because we offer a very personalised service .We know how stressful planning a wedding can be and we’re keen not to add to that part of the planning! We love chatting to our brides, making sure they are happy with each step of the way, taking care to reply promptly to each e-mail and phone call and keeping her informed as to how her order is coming along and of course at the end of it all, delivering a beautiful piece which she can wear with pride on her special day and treasure for years after her wedding.
A huge thanks to the lovely Heather of *Sash and Veil* for providing today’s *Pearls of Wedding Wisdom* and for inspiring us with so much bridal pretty!
