The lovely Rachel of The Crafty Hen has kindly provided today’s Pearls of Heavenly Wisdom:
*How did The Crafty Hen begin?*
The Crafty Hen was hatched by Head Hen Julie Roberts, a highly experienced workshop leader and textile artist. Her knowledge has allowed her to spread her wings into teaching in just about every craft area you could think of. After a period of incubation and increasing demand beyond one chick’s capability The Crafty Hen was born. Since then, it has developed and expanded into a high-end workshop service, catering for a wide range of professional events and special occasions. Sharing a few crafty skills along the way.
*What is unique about The Crafty Hen?*
We are the original provider of craft parties nationwide! Our fun craft workshops and parties are led by experienced professional crafts people. All our workshops are designed as enjoyable activities where you work together to make and create and come away with an impressive result. Whether you create something to wear to the big day like beautiful jewellery or fabulous fascinators. Or work together, creating unique items for the big day itself, like strings of wedding bunting or even making the Bride’s own bouquet!
*What can The Crafty Hen offer to brides and hens?*
We’re passionate about providing a friendly service, quality high end materials and a professional experience from beginning to end. Delivering an enjoyable group activity to bond our crafty hens, break the ice and ensure everyone leaves proud of what they managed to create in such a short space of time.
In the run up to the workshop, we work closely with our crafty groups to find out all about the wedding colour scheme, hen weekend theme, bride’s personal tastes and anything else that will help us to provide the materials, trims and matching haberdashery tailored specifically to your requests.
*What kind of hen party experience do you hope crafty loving brides/hens will have?*
That everyone has fun and hopefully leaves with a few crafty new skills too! Many of our crafty hens arrive without having even threaded a needle before, and leave so proud of their creations – often wearing their creations out the door. Having discovered a creative side to themselves they never realised they had!
*Where do your crafty hen parties cover location wise?*
We work nationwide! Covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland too. Bringing our crafty workshops to you, in whatever location suits you best. Be that at home, your weekend accommodation, over cocktails in a local bar or over cake in a nearby tea room.
*Which workshops would you recommend for a vintage hen party?*
With vintage options available for many of our workshops, that is a hard question to answer! But one of our personal favourites has to be our vintage garter making classes, using antique lace, vintage ribbons and beautiful matching buttons. It could be your Bride’s ‘Something Old’ and ‘Something Blue’!
*Could you please tell us more about your party workshop kits?*
For those with just a small group of hens to occupy or those planning a more informal do, our DIY craft kits are the perfect way to enjoy a crafternoon your own way! We currently offer kits for Fascinator, Garter, Bunting, and Nipple Tassel Making, as well as Knicker Customisation.
Each kit comes with all the perfectly co-ordinating fabrics, trims, buttons and lace you’ll need to create your items, as well as easy to follow instructions – and the needles and thread too!
*Which workshops would you recommend for creating wedding decor/ keepsakes?*
Our bunting making workshops are perfect for creating beautiful bespoke bunting to decorate the wedding venue with. We tailor all the materials to expertly coordinate with the all important wedding colour scheme, so the Bride will have strings of handmade bunting to keep as an everlasting memento.
Another popular option has to be our patchwork parties! Perfect for working with your closest friends and family to create a treasured keepsake, again, with all materials tailored to suit the Bride’s tastes and favourite colours.
*What kind of non-hen events do you offer?*
We love any excuse to get crafty! Whatever the occasion or event we can put together a creative workshop to suit. We run workshops for all sorts of special occasions such as baby showers, birthdays and kid’s parties too. As well as corporate events, team building days, in-store and promotional experiences too.
*What are your top tips for organising a fabulous crafty hen party?*
Plan early! Many of our most popular workshops can book up quite far in advance, so it is always worth getting your party plans in place sooner rather than later to avoid missing out. Hen party organisers always underestimate how tricky party planning can be, so make sure to allow yourself plenty of time to round up all the hens and get your plans confirmed early.
But most importantly – remember the hen do is all about the Bride To Be. Don’t go for the stereotypical ‘L’ plate and willy straws if that’s not your Bride To Be’s kind of scene.
A huge thanks to *The Crafty Hen* for providing us with today’s Heavenly Hen inspiration. I certainly cannot wait to get crafty with them again!
