*The Vintage Swing Company* have provided today’s *Pearls of Wedding Wisdom*
*How did The Vintage Swing Company begin?*
I was working on my cousin’s reclamation when a priest approached me asking if I knew anyone who wanted to buy some oak and cherry wood that had previously been used as boats and in churches. Whilst trying to decide what I would do with it, I remembered a daydream that I had as a girl about my wedding. I would see myself and my husband (It changed daily, I was 8!) sitting side by side on a big swing lit up by fairylights under an old oak tree. Wild flowers had grown down from the tree around the ropes and he had carved our names into the face of it. It all seemed like a weird magical bit of fate, I took him up on the offer and began making my dream come true.
*What inspires you?*
The thought of a bride’s beaming face seeing her swing all dressed in beautiful flowers on her big day; the couple having a special moment surrounded by flowers lit by fairylights and knowing that I helped create that magical little moment that will stay with them forever.
*Please describe The Vintage Swing Company in 3 words*
MY DREAM JOB or Bespoke, Fun, Reclaimed
*What different styles of swings do you offer?*
I offer a double wedding swing that can be inscribed with the couple’s name and date, either by engraving or pyrography and a choice of rope depending on the overall look the bride likes. Rustic vintage or a whiter more classic look.
*In what ways can The Vintage Swing Company feature at a wedding?*
They are such a magical charming feature throughout the day and night. They keep the kids occupied and the photo booth idea is fab. They can be an intimate hideout for the bride and groom to have quiet moments among the mayhem or a nice resting place for aunty Mabel to take the weight off.
*How can swings be personalised to the couple?*
The bride and groom’s married name inscribed in the face is the most requested, along with the date of the big day, but vows, even graphics and artwork can be applied. It is a totally bespoke service so I am really happy to discuss particular wishes . I will liaise with florists about dressing the ropes with the brides chosen flowers but you can of course have any crafty bridesmaid do it too.
*How can a swing enhance your wedding decor and photos?*
If you choose to have them lit with fairy lights they are an outdoor photo booth space in the evening, as well as a charming place to have more traditional photos in the day. They are big enough for the bride and groom to be seated together and be surrounded by the wedding party and their guests; it offers really good composition in photographs.
*Is there anything that needs to be considered for having a swing at a wedding?*
You need a big healthy tree or beams in the venue. Most venues have somewhere that can accommodate a swing but you need to ask the venue to speak with a grounds man (or the family/designated handyman) about the health of a tree. I am happy to liaise to give advice and suggest hanging methods.
*How far in advance of the wedding should couples contact you?*
8 weeks..ish but I am always available to discuss last minute orders, If I can help I will.
*Apart from weddings, what other occasions could your swings be used for?*
You never grow out of loving the wind in your hair and your feet in the air. I am taking a swing with me to the secret garden party festival this year and they have been great fun at parties! Kids adore them inscribed with their name and I do not know anyone who hasn’t said they love them and want one.
