Today we have the gorgeous *Pretty Pastels and Beautiful Birds* wedding of Adam and Sam, who we met on Wednesday with a *Proposal in Paradise*.
*Wedding Planning* Adam and Sam got married one year and two months after their engagement and planned and agreed every aspect of the wedding together, which is so lovely to hear. Sam added, “It was a very mixed experience – at times it was great fun and I am a bit of an organiser anyway. At other times trying to combine planning with working full time was a challenge.” Adam and Sam felt organisation was key when planning the wedding, “We had a planning book and made sure we made lots of lists”. Love a list – good work!
*Wedding Inspiration* Adam and Sam browsed through lots of wedding magazines and used the internet for planning their big day.
*Wedding Style* Pretty, Pastels, Soft, Relaxed, Birds – inspired by ideas from wedding magazines.
*Colour Scheme* Pinks and Greens – perfect for their June wedding, they felt it suited the time of the year well.
*The Bride* Sam was such a stunning bride and wore an elegant Amanda Wyatt ivory soft tulle and lace gown. It was such a beautiful design and had a sweetheart neckline, soft shoulder straps and diamante detailed corset.
Sam had seen several Amanda Wyatt dresses that she liked and searched for stockists in her local area when she came across ‘To Have and To Hold‘ based in Mirfield. Sam stated, “The woman was really nice and friendly and did not try to push anything. She made me feel much more relaxed and so it just felt right to buy the dress from her.”
Sam knew it was ‘the dress’ when she “kept trying it on and thinking about it “. She was unsure about how you should feel when you have found ‘the dress’, “I think I’d watched too many episodes of Don’t tell the bride and had expected to burst into tears when I found ‘the dress’ but that never happened!”
Sam found dress shopping a mixed process, “I loved it at first but then found it quite difficult”. She had spent a lot of time gazing excitedly at pretty wedding dresses online but then only to be disappointed when she found they were not available in shops. Sam also found trying dresses on quite challenging in some of the small boutiques, “It was difficult saying why I did not like certain dresses – it can be quite personal”.
Sam wore a soft tulle veil embellished with sparkle and accompanied with a stunning side crystal hair band, “I went for a fitting of my dress after I’d had a hair trial. Whilst we were in the shop my mum suggested that I try on a couple of hair accessories. I was there with my mum and grandma and we all immediately agreed that the hair band finished off the overall look perfectly”.
Sam’s beautiful bouquet, created by The Jackson Flower Company of Halifax included pink roses, lisianthus and freesias. These were all of Sam’s favourites, such a lovely touch!
*Something Old Something New Something Borrowed Something Blue* Sam borrowed a striking pearl necklace and matching earrings from her mum, she wore a blue garter, she had her new stunning wedding dress and she teamed this with her own shoes she already loved to give her the ‘old‘.
*The Groom* Adam and his groomsmen hired their suits from Moss Bros Hire and these were teamed with cream waistcoats and pink rose buttonholes.
Adam wore an ivory cravat and the groomsmen had green cravats to match the bridesmaids. They spent the morning of the wedding at a little cottage in the countryside – what a great idea and superb way to relax before the wedding! I love Adam’s beaming expressions in the photos – just lovely!
*Bridesmaids* Sam’s four bridesmaids, made up of her sister, Adam’s sister and her two best friends from school wore strapless green satin cocktail dresses from Marks and Spencers. Sam was delighted when she found the dresses as she knew what colour she had in mind and “they were the perfect shade of green”. She was also relieved that she was able to order the dresses in different sizes and they could be exchanged really easily. Shopping for bridesmaid shoes was a tad more difficult, so she let the bridesmaids choose their own cream shoes.
The beautiful bridesmaids carried matching pink and white bouquets to Sam’s bridal bouquet, also created by The Jackson Flower Company.
*Morning of the Wedding* The bridal party spent the morning of the wedding at Sam’s mum’s house. Her mum was a gem and presented the girls with bacon sandwiches before having their hair done. They did their own make-up and just had enough time for a few photos!
Sam’s beautifully classic updo gathered into a soft wave bun was created by Lisa of Fuschia Hair in Halifax.
*The Church* Adam and Sam chose St. Paul’ Church, King Cross, Halifax as their ceremony venue as this was the same church that Sam’s mum, grandma and great-grandma had got married in. I think that is just so incredible and what a lovely tradition to carry on – it must have meant such a lot to Sam’s family also.
Adam and Sam organised a drinks reception at the church so that the parish congregation could celebrate with them before they moved to their reception venue. What a charming thing to do! Guests then made the short one mile journey to the reception.
*Walking Down the Aisle* The beautiful bride walked down the aisle to the lovely ‘Canon in D’ by Pachelbel accompanied by her adoring father. The church was floral filled with the pink and white rose and lisianthus theme.
*Transport* Adam and Sam’s classic Rolls Royce car was provided by Horsfields of Halifax.
*The Reception* Adam and Sam held their summer wedding reception at the fabulous Southwood in Halifax. This gorgeous venue is located on Birdcage Lane and Sam added that “the address helped to influence the bird theme!”. I love this!! Sam’s mum had seen an advert for Southwood when she was driving one day and when Adam and Sam saw it, they were impressed by its character. They loved its “simple”, “elegant” and “intimate” feel and were drawn to the grounds, as they were “small enough so we didn’t lose anyone”.
Guests were treated to pimms and lemonade and bottled beers in the lush garden at Southwood.
The room was decorated with floral displays, chair covers and tea lights were in abundance creating a stunning room. Tables were filled with “small pots of roses, freesias and lisianthus, all in keeping with the bouquets”. These sound like such gorgeous flowers and very impressive coordinating all of the venue flowers with the bouquets.
*Menu* Guests enjoyed a scrumptious menu – a comforting soup followed by a traditional roast dinner, “a people pleaser” as Adam and Sam put it and this was finished off with a yummy Eton Mess “we felt a light and summery pud would be appropriate”.
*A Piece of Wedding Cake* Adam and Sam’s pretty in pink pastel cake was made by 3 Tiers. The pink icing was embellished with small pretty white flowers and had caricature cake toppers of Adam and Sam – these were just fab!!
This fabulous cake was enjoyed later in the evening and comprised of three delicious tiers with a different flavour on each tier – chocolate orange, carrot and fruit cake. Wow, this sounds yummy!
*Wedding Favours* Adam and Sam gave fabulous wedding favours to their guests – bird bath bombs inside bird house shaped favour boxes. Such an unusual and lovely idea and I am very impressed with how even the favours are in theme!
*Wedding Stationery* Nessie designed Adam and Sam’s fantastic bird themed invitations.
Sam made the seating plan herself, “I used the colour themes of pastel pink and green and combined it with some bunting stickers that I picked up from a craft shop”. Sam and her bridesmaid also hand wrote all of the place names in their “best handwriting”. I love these personal and crafty touches by Sam – a rather impressive bride!!
Tables were named after the colleges of Durham University where Adam and Sam met -lovely! Adam and Sam left a message book for wedding guests to leave them a note.
*Entertainment* Guests enjoyed the musical delights of a string quartet in the garden for reception drinks and a DJ for the evening reception. Adam and Sam described the evening as “dance floor fun” so the DJ was an integral part of this, “We let him have free reign on what he thought suited the mood and allowed for requests from the guests”. Sounds like a fun party to me!
There were two children at the wedding and Adam and Sam thought carefully about entertaining their little guests, “We left little gifts and colouring books at their seats for during dinner. They spent the day running around playing in the garden”. It sounds like they had a magical time!!
*Photography* Lawson-Wright Studios photographed Adam and Sam’s wedding day beautifully. Sam had been a bridesmaid for one of her friends and had been so impressed with Andy’s work that she decided to book him too. A mixture of different photography styles were used on the day to create romantic, formal and informal shots. Memories to cherish for a lifetime with these exquisite photos. Adam and Sam just beam happiness in all of their photos!
*Videography* Picturehouse captured the highlights of Adam and Sam’s wedding and they were so delighted with the results. Having a videographer is often not top of a couple’s priority list but one of Sam’s friends had said to her that it was such a regret of theirs not having a video that Adam and Sam decided that it was “definitely worth having one”. They had come across a wedding website which asked couples to think about whether or not they really wanted a videographer. The website asked “If you could watch your grandparent’s wedding video would you?” with the point being that if you said “Yes” then hiring a videographer would be something that you should invest in for your wedding. Adam and Sam both said they would and is the one thing they are both glad that they included. I think this is something that is often overlooked but having a DVD to watch your wedding day memories and being able to share that with your children/grandchildren is just priceless.
*Best Wedding Moment* “Impossible to say – the whole day!”
*Most Memorable Moments*
“Arriving at the church, walking down the aisle and the confetti.”
“Arriving at the venue with the string quartet playing and the sun shining.”
*Most Surprising Moment* “Seeing all the family dancing – people we could never have imagined dancing got up on the dance floor.”
*Photo that Encapsulates the Wedding* “The confetti shot”
* Wedding Memories* Adam and Sam selected their favourite wedding photos and Lawson-Wright Studios compiled them into a beautiful album, “We wanted a professional one that we would keep forever”.
“We have a box filled with mementos from planning through to the actual day of the wedding.” This is always such a nice thing to do and something that you can look back through in years to come.
*Honeymoon* Adam and Sam stayed in the lovely little cottage in the countryside after the wedding. Two days after the wedding, they then flew on their wonderful honeymoon combining Oman with The Maldives. Wow!! If the location was not impressive enough, Sam explained that what she loved most about the honeymoon was that Adam had planned the whole trip and that it was a “complete surprise”. Adam’s love of travel certainly paid off with the proposal and then he really did top it off with the honeymoon – I think he will be inspiring many other grooms!! He really did put a great deal of thought into it, “We both love snorkelling and the hotel in the Maldives had its own reef. It was a good mixture of exploring and relaxing”.
*Pearls of Wedding Wisdom*
* “I’d say it is definitely worth trying dresses on – they look so different!”
* “It will be the best day ever, try to plan as far ahead as possible because the run up to the wedding can be quite stressful.”
* “The day will fly by – try to enjoy every moment.”
Thanks so much to Adam and Sam for sharing their beautiful wedding with us – the photos make me smile everytime I look at them. And what a gorgeous couple! I absolutely adore the pretty pastels and bird theme which will definitely inspire others when planning a spring/summer wedding. The beautiful blooms, birdcage themed stationery and the summer sunshine all played a big part in the elegant ambiance and stunning photographs. The day sounded like the perfect reflection of Adam and Sam – lovely, fun and relaxed. *Sparkle Pearls and Lace* is so delighted to be able to be a part of this!
